A New Treatment Called PIPAC Is Promising for Those With Metastatic Abdominal Cancer
In this Henry Ford Health article, Dr. Richard Berri explains how PIPAC delivers pressurized aerosolized chemotherapy directly into the abdominal cavity to treat small cancer nodules that may be difficult to remove surgically. Because PIPAC is minimally invasive and uses a lower dose of chemotherapy, patients may experience fewer side effects and a shorter recovery.
The article also explains how PIPAC may slow tumor growth or serve as a bridge to HIPEC surgery for certain patients. Dr. Berri, Chief of Surgical Oncology at Henry Ford St. John Hospital, performed Michigan’s first PIPAC procedure in 2025.
